2024 IPL set to run from March 22 to May 31; Hazlewood is out of commission for the first half of the season

Published:

The definitive schedule for the 2024 Indian Premier League will be revealed when the Election Commission has finalized the polling dates for India’s general elections. The league is expected to play between March 22 and the end of May.

The IPL also informed franchises about the players that will be up for auction in the upcoming season on the eve of the 2024 auction:

Australia: March and April will not have access to Hazlewood

If Josh Hazlewood is purchased at the auction, he will only be accessible starting in the first week of May. It is known that he is expecting their first child with his wife, Cherina Murphy Christian. After being released by RCB, he went up for auction, with a starting price of INR 2 crore (about $240,000 USD).

It is anticipated that every other Australian player up for bid will be available for the whole Indian Premier League season. Cricket Australia has given the players autonomy to decide whether to play in the Sheffield Shield final or the Indian Premier League, with the tournament set to take place from March 21 to 25.

Rehan withdraws from the sale in England

The ECB has informed the IPL that its players will be available for the entire season “subject to fitness and international duty and any periods of unavailability that players submitted on their auction applications.” England is set to face Pakistan for a T20I series from May 22 to May 30.

The ECB also made it clear that Rob Key, its managing director, will “liaise directly” with the player and his team in the event that any players “require specific management in the build-up to the T20 World Cup”.

Several of the best players from England, including Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes, Harry Brook, and Phil Salt, have entered the auction. The 19-year-old legspin allrounder Rehan Ahmed, whose base price was indicated as INR 50 lakh (about USD 60,000), has abruptly pulled out of the auction, ESPNcricinfo has discovered. The ECB is anxious to prevent Rehan from spending an excessive amount of time away from home at a young age. Rehan will be in India early in 2019 for a five-Test series.

Sri Lanka: Chameera and hasaranga are available

All of Sri Lanka Cricket’s important white-ball players are available for the whole 2024 Indian Premier League. This includes Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera, who are up for auction after being released by RCB and Lucknow Super Giants, respectively, as well as Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana, who play for the Chennai Super Kings.

None of those four players will be included in the Sri Lankan Test team for their two-Test series against Bangladesh starting on April 3. After the series against Bangladesh, the other Test players who are purchased at the auction will be eligible to participate in the Indian Premier League.

Bangladesh: Taskin and Shoriful are not available for bidding

The BCB has allowed left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman to participate in the 2024 Indian Premier League between March 22 and May 11, provided he is purchased at auction. Delhi Capitals released him, and he has a base price indicated of INR 2 crore (about $240,000 USD). The 2024 season will see the fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam sidelined as they are expected to play Bangladesh’s home series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in March and April.

Josh Little is accessible in Ireland.

Josh Little, an Irish left-arm fast bowler, will play for the Gujarat Titans during the 2024 season; he will not play in the one-off Test match against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to take place from March 22 to 26. He will also be absent from Ireland’s T20I series against the Netherlands and Scotland (May 19–26) as well as against Pakistan (May 7–14).

Players from Afghanistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies are all available for the 2024 Indian Premier League provided they are purchased at auction.
