29-year-old goalkeeper to undergo Manchester United medical today, Reports

Published:

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland will have a medical later today (5 January), according to the Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell.

The 29-year-contract old’s expires in six months. The Eagles can extend his contract for another year.

The Red Devils want to loan the English goalkeeper for six months. Last summer, they recruited Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United.

The Magpies recalled the Slovakian midway through his tenure at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag needs a backup for David de Gea.

United considered recalling Dean Henderson from Nottingham Forest, but didn’t. He joined Tricky Trees for more playing time.

It would have been unfair to recall the 25-year-old midway through his City Ground stint and put him on the bench. Under the Dutch strategist, De Gea is the club’s top goalkeeper. The Spaniard has played 23 games, excluding two EFL Cup games.

Butland would be a good addition in that aspect. He spent seven seasons in the Premier League before this season.

The legalities must be fulfilled before Manchester United’s FA Cup third-round match against Everton on 6 January.

De Gea explains Ten Hag despite 3-0 win
Ten Hag was angry with Manchester United after their 3-0 win over AFC Bournemouth on 3 January.

De Gea stated (via Manchester Evening News):

“He was happy with the clean sheet but angry because we conceded too many chances and were too open at the end of the game, so he was angry.” “He’s doing well. He puts every player in the same direction and we feel like a proper team. Everyone wants to win, everyone wants to play for this club and that’s massive.”
Cherries had seven shots, four on target, but couldn’t beat the Spanish goalie. Manchester United have won six straight in all competitions.
