43 Big Bash League games will now be played as part of a new television agreement with Cricket Australia

The 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) season will have 43 games, 18 fewer than the current tournament. CA inked a seven-year domestic broadcast arrangement with Foxtel and Seven West Media.

The tournament extended from 43 games in 2017-18 to 61, with a five-game finals series. The number of matches has been reduced to fit inside the school holidays and to accommodate Australian and international players.

“We’ve listened to the fans and the players, and this season with the BBL, we can tighten things up. It helps us to recruit the greatest players and complements our future trips.”
All Australian men’s home Tests and women’s international games will be aired on Seven and Foxtel from 2024-2031. While Tests and most BBL will be free on Seven and 7-plus, Australia’s men’s white-ball games will be pay-per-view on Foxtel and Kayo.

Foxtel and Seven’s cricket production has been top-notch, according to Hockley.

“We’re thrilled to continue our broadcast partnership with Foxtel and Seven. Foxtel Group and Seven’s cricket production is first-class, and their great service to cricket fans was a factor in our choice to prolong this successful cooperation.”
Seven and Foxtel won the auction over Nine and Paramount.

1.5 billion AUD cricket broadcast contract
The AUD 1.51 billion transaction runs from 2024 through 2030-31. The current six-year contract, for AUD 1.18 billion, was struck in 2018 and took the rights from Nine Network after 40 years.

Seven and CA have been in disagreement since 2020, when the former threatened to end the contract and sue in June. The broadcaster will discontinue its legal case against CA regarding BBL’s quality.
