5 IPL stars who could lose their contracts if they do not perform well at the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022

England prevailed over Pakistan in the championship match of the Twenty20 World Cup 2022, which took place yesterday evening in Melbourne. After West Indies, England became the second side in history to win the T20 World Cup on two separate occasions.

The huge event that took place in Australia over the past two weeks featured the participation of a significant number of prominent IPL players. The IPL franchises certainly would have been keeping a close eye not only on the event but also on how well their players were doing in the competition.

Because of their lacklustre performance in the T20 World Cup 2022, it is possible that several players would be released from their IPL contracts, even though they only had an average season in the Indian Premier League in 2022. This article will provide a list of five such players.

1. Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade, a veteran Australian wicket-keeper hitter who played for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022, amassed 157 runs over the course of 10 matches. At the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022, Wade was a member of the Australian team that competed in the tournament.

In four matches while wearing the Australian jersey, he managed to score only 15 runs while maintaining a strike rate of 100. Because he only had a batting average of 7.5 throughout the competition, he is eligible to be put back into the auction pool for the Indian Premier League.

2. Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins, an additional player from Australia, is featured on the list as well. The fast bowling all-rounder competed for Australia in four matches, during which he scored 21 runs and collected three wickets. He scored more than eight runs per over despite his economy rate.

While playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, Cummins was not particularly impressive with the ball. As a result, it is possible that he will not be kept.

3. Tristan Stubbs

In 2022, Tristan Stubbs participated in both the IPL and the T20 World Cup for the first time. He did not put up a good showing in either of the competitions. The youthful player only managed to score two runs for the Mumbai Indians over both of their encounters (MI).

During the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022, he appeared in four games for South Africa and scored a total of 31 runs, averaging 10.33 runs per game. It’s possible that MI will try to get rid of him so they can open up a slot overseas.

4. Nicholas Pooran

Wicket-keeper batter Nicholas Pooran, who represented West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2022 both as a player and as captain, did not have a successful tournament. Only 25 runs were scored by him throughout the course of three games, giving him a strike rate of 86.21.

Since all three matches were played against teams with inferior rankings, SunRisers Hyderabad may reevaluate their decision to sign him to another IPL contract.

5. Odean Smith

All-rounder for the West Indies team Another huge name that fell short of the mark at the T20 World Cup 2022 was Odean Smith. He did not play as well as he should have. Smith played in three matches and ended up scoring 25 runs and taking two wickets. Throughout the competition, his economy rate averaged 9.44.

Since he failed to impress during the IPL 2022 campaign as well, the Punjab Kings might consider releasing Smith from the six million rupees per season deal he is now under.
