Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain of Afghanistan, stated on Thursday that they were hoping Rashid Khan will be fit to play in the last match of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Rashid’s absence from the first two games of the series, which begins on June 2 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota, dealt a severe setback to the Afghans. At the same location, the second and third games are scheduled for June 4 and 7, respectively.
We are hoping for Rashid’s healing and that he returns because he has a back issue and a minor ache. Shahidi told reporters on Thursday, “I assume he’ll miss the first two games before rejoining the team.
He stated, “As you said, he’s our main bowler and our superstar bowler. We’ll miss him, but at the same time, this is a great chance for other kids to showcase their talent.”
“He is one of the guys who is very important, and we should keep him for the future games. He is important for us for the Asia Cup and the World Cup,” he continued.
Shahidi added that he believes it will be an excellent preparation for them before the World Cup, which is set to take place in India from October to November.
Since the conditions in Sri Lanka and India are the same and won’t change during the World Cup, Shahidi stated, “It will be good preparation for us because it will be like good preparation for us.”
Although we haven’t played in Sri Lanka, some of the boys have played league cricket there, so I’ve spoken with them about the pitch’s condition and the ground’s layout to get a sense of it, he said.
