Indian tennis players Mukund Sasikumar and Prajnesh Gunneswaran advanced to the Bengaluru Open 2023 final qualifying round.

The famous ATP Challenger competition is being held in Bengaluru at the KSLTA Stadium. The event is being organized by the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA).

With his assured victory by scores of 6-1 and 6-4, the 26-year-old Sasikumar, who is currently ranked 402 in the world, completely crushed the World No. 170 Andrew Paulson. On the other side, India’s No. 1 Gunneswaran had to contend with some difficult challenges from Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Lock in the first set, which went into a tie-breaker. But, Gunneswaran was able to keep things under control and eventually secured a victory by a score of 7-5 and 6-4.

In the meantime, it was a heartbreaking loss for Ramkumar Ramanathan, who put up a strong performance against the Japanese player Yasutaka Uchiyama, a former world number 78, but ultimately lost in a thrilling three-set match that lasted for more than two hours. Ramkumar Ramanathan’s loss was 6-3, 5-7, and 3-6.

Several Indian competitors, including Sidharth Rawat, Kriish Tyagi, Digvijaypratap Singh, and Manish Ganesh, who were given wild card spots, also competed to the best of their abilities but were ultimately unsuccessful in their matches.

In the presence of Eric Lamquet, Director of the ATP Challenger Tour, and Priyank Kharge, Member of Legislative Assembly, Government of Karnataka, and Senior Vice President of the KSLTA, R Ashoka, Honorable Minister for Revenue, Government of Karnataka and President of the KSLTA, will officially open the tournament today. The main event of the tournament will begin today.

The main draw for the singles competition is where players like Tseng Chun-Hsin, the top seed, Marc Polmans of Australia, and Luca Nardi, the fifth seed, will begin their competition. On the other hand, Sasikumar and Gunneswaran are scheduled to square off against one another in the final qualifying round earlier that day.
