Ali Khan of the United States has been banned for two ODIs or T20Is, whichever comes first, for breaking the ICC Code of Conduct during the World Cup Qualifier Play-off match in Windhoek. Elliot Miles from Jersey was fined 15% of his match fee and given one demerit point. Jasdeep Singh, also from the USA, was fined 30% of his match fee and given 2 demerit points.
Khan got one demerit point and a 15% fine for his most recent mistake. This brought his total number of demerit points to four, so he will miss the next two games for USA. During a T20I match against Bermuda in November 2021, he got three demerit points for two different things.
Singh was fined for breaking Article 2.12 of the Code, which is about “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match.”
Miles got a fine because he broke Article 2.3 of the Code, which says that “use of an audible obscenity during an International Match” is not allowed.
“All three players admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Owen Chirombe of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for formal hearings,” the ICC said in a media release. “On-field umpires Andrew Louw and Claus Schumacher, and third umpire David Odhiambo levelled the charges.”
