Tom Price (109 and 4/38)
At No. 9, Price hit a 98-ball 109 against Worcestershire to help Gloucestershire get back on track after they were in a tough spot at 45 for 7 on the first day. Then he came back to bat and took four wickets, bringing the home team’s score to 118 for 7 at the end of the day. Ajeet Dale helped him out well. He scored 22 runs at number 11 and then took three wickets on the 17-wicket day at New Road ground.
Best performances at bat
Tom Abell (119*) and James Rew (114*) both hit centuries without losing a wicket, and Somerset finished Day 1 with 311 for 4. When Somerset was given the chance to bat, they lost their top three players with only 24 runs on the board. The two of them put together a 221-run perfect run that ended the game for the other team.
On the first day of the match against Northamptonshire, Nick Gubbins (125) and James Vince (104*) both hit centuries, which helped Hampshire get to 287 for 4 on the board. Vince and Gubbins’ partnership of 198 runs put the visitors in a strong situation.
Michael Jones (69), Scott Borthwick (59), Ollie Robinson (73), and Brydon Carse (53 not out) all made half-centuries to help Durham get to 382 for 6 on the first day against Glamorgan, who chose to play. After Jones and Borthwick put up 117 runs together, Glamorgan took wickets at regular intervals to bring the visitors’ score down to 239 for 5. However, in the second part of the day, they also let that momentum go.
Ben Duckett hit an unbeaten 119, and Nottinghamshire beat Middlesex with a score of 252 for 5 on the first day, which was rained out. When it was Haseeb Hameed’s turn to bat, he and Duckett put up 117 runs before Ethan Bamber got rid of Hameed at 55. The guests quickly fell apart after that dismissal, and they were soon down to 152 for 4. But Duckett and Lydon Jones brought the game back to life. They added 73 runs to the fifth wicket before Jones was out.
