Bangalore becomes Bengaluru in the team name of RCB

Bengaluru is the official name of the city, and RCB has adopted it as their team name in place of the anglicized “Bangalore.” The modification was made public on Tuesday, March 19, during the team’s UNBOX event at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The squad will now be known as Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They were known as Royal Challengers Bangalore when the event first started in 2008.

In the week preceding the event, the franchise teased a name change through social media marketing initiatives. Actually, local supporters have been calling for the addition of “Bengaluru” for some time after the state capital of Karnataka formally adopted the more colloquial name on November 1, 2014.

The Indian Premier League franchise is not the first to rebrand as RCB. Three years ago, Kings XI Punjab became the Punjab Kings, and Delhi, which had been the Daredevils, became the Capitals after JSW Group bought the team. An’s’ was removed from the Rising Pune Supergiant team’s name even earlier, in advance of their second and last season in the league.

WPL winners are honored, and Vinay Kumar is admitted into the RCB Hall of Fame

The women’s squad of the franchise, who were recently crowned WPL Champions, received a guard of honor from the men’s team at a ceremony that included song, dance, and the unveiling of new jerseys. To thunderous applause from a nearly full house, winning captain Smriti Mandhana then took her team on a triumphant lap around the field while carrying the trophy.

Former player and Karnataka great Vinay Kumar was also inducted into the franchise’s hall of fame by RCB during the ceremony. Vinay was an RCB player for five seasons, with his finest year being 2013 when he took 23 wickets at a strike rate of 21.43.
