It’s been 15 years since the IPL began, and RCB still hasn’t won a championship. Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, Mitchell Starc, Shane Warne, etc. are just a few of the outstanding players who have played for the franchise over the years. The RCB hall of fame was established last year, with the announcement that Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers would be the inaugural inductees. The team also retired the jersey numbers 333 and 17 in honor of these icons.
Chris Gayle opened up in an interview for JioCinema about his rocky relationship with the RCB organization during the inaugural years of the Indian Premier League. He admitted that the organization was neglecting everyone else in favor of concentrating on the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and himself, Gayle. As a result, many team members felt excluded, which negatively affected their play. After Mike Hesson took over as director of cricket, though, things look considerably brighter for the team.
When it comes to the RCB point of view, a lot of players felt left out: Chris Gayle
“Sometimes, being one of the main players, being the main man of the franchise, I am always in my own zone, pretty much. What I understand when it comes to the RCB point of view, a lot of players felt left out. A lot of players did not feel like they were a part of the franchise. It was like it’s only 3 players getting all the attention – myself, Virat, and AB. A lot of players pretty much, mentally, they were nowhere within the team. So that’s always going to be a challenge to win a title,” Chris Gayle said.
Both AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli have retired from the RCB team in the past two years, and a new team has taken over as captain. For the 2022 auction, RCB assembled a strong squad led by Faf Du Plessis by focusing primarily on Indian talent. The team has been performing well recently, as evidenced by its three postseason appearances since 2019. This season, the Indian Premier League will return to its original format of 7 home games and 7 away games. The defending champions, the Gujarat Titans, will open the new season against the Chennai Super Kings on March 31.
