The 2023 Cordoba Open’s second round concludes Thursday. Three seeded players—Pedro Cachin, Pedro Martinez, and Bernabe Zapata Miralles—have already exited the event.

Diego Schwartzman and Francisco Cerundolo lead the remaining Argentine players. Defending champion Albert Ramos-Vinolas will join them on Thursday.

Predictions for all Cordoba Open matches on February 9#1: Cristian Garin vs Joao Sousa

2022 Wimbledon: Cristian Garin

Joao Sousa defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry in three sets to win his first match of the year. Since last year, Cristian Garin’s results have fluctuated, although he’s good on clay.

In the previous round, he bagel-ed Pedro Martinez. Garin’s five titles, including the 2020 Cordoba Open, are on red dirt. Like most matches here, this one will be a long slugfest with the Chilean winning.

Christian Garin is in straight sets.

#2—(6) Federico Coria against Marco Cecchinato
Marco Cecchinto won only four ATP matches in 2018. He won two ATP matches this year with his first-round straight-sets triumph over Facundo Bagnis.

Federico Coria defeated Thiago Monteiro after dropping the first set. The 30-year-results old’s are superior to Cecchinato’s, making him the favorite.
Federico Coria in three sets.

#3: Albert Ramos-Vinolas vs. Dusan Lajovic
Albert Ramos-Vinolas will defend his title against Dusan Lajovic after a first-round bye. He started the season 0-2. The Serb defeated Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets to start his campaign. His first season triumph.

Ramos-Vinolas has done well in Cordoba, even if neither player is playing well. He was a 2021 finalist and won last year. Expect the Spaniard to regain his form and win his championship defense.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three sets.

#4—(WC) Guido Pella against (Q) Hugo Dellien
Both players won the first round in straight sets. Guido Pella won his first ATP match since October 2021. The Argentine is regaining his feet after a year off.

Dellien enters this match with more match play. Pella, a former top 20, has performed better in the past. He could outperform the Bolivian with home crowd backing.

Guido Pella in three.

#5: (2) Francisco Cerundolo against (Q) Federico Delbonis
Federico Delbonis rallied against Alejandro Tabilo in the first round after qualifying. He also saved three match points in the last set.

In his sole tournament this year, the Australian Open, Francisco Cerundolo reached the third round. The second seed received a first-round bye.

Since last year, his career has risen, peaking at No. 24. The Argentine will likely defeat Delbonis.

Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets.

#1 Diego Schwartzman versus (WC) Manuel Cerundolo
Diego Schwartzman’s 2023 season started poorly. He missed the United Cup owing to injury. He retired midway through his ASB Classic first-round match. The 30-year-old lost the Australian Open second round.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo opened the year with straight Challenger titles. He defeated Pablo Andujar in the first round of the Cordoba Open. Unfortunately, his opponent retired, sending him into the next round.

Cerundolo may upset the top seed due to Schwartzman’s poor start. Injury prevented him from defending his 2021 championship in 2022. This match could go the distance, but Schwartzman’s experience should help him progress.

Diego Schwartzman in three sets.
