Dhoni meets a physician about his bothersome knee and may need surgery

Published:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni promised to return the following season if he is fit, and he has already started making good on that promise after winning the IPL final on Monday night. His knee, which had been bothering him throughout the just finished season, was the subject of a medical visit less than 48 hours after he made the news.

On Wednesday, he was at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute to have his knee treated; on Thursday, he might have surgery. The Chennai Super Kings captain is seeking advice from Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the hospital’s director of sports medicine and an expert in sports orthopaedics. Rishabh Pant of the Delhi Capitals, another IPL franchise’s wicket-keeper and captain, is being treated by Dr. Pardiwala.

Dhoni spoke with the CSK management before taking off for Mumbai. In reality, the franchise sent the Dhonis and team doctor Dr. Madhu Thottappil to Mumbai.

The development was confirmed by the franchise. CEO Kasi Viswanathan said Cricbuzz on Wednesday, “He has gone to meet Dr. Padriwal and he is prepared to take the surgical route to recover fully for the next season.”

Dhoni’s left knee ailment plagued him constantly during IPL 2023, which team coach Stephen Fleming had recognized mid-season. He (Dhoni) is recovering from a knee injury, which is evident in some of his motions and is causing him some discomfort. However, what you witnessed is still a valuable player for us. The New Zealander had remarked, “His fitness has always been quite professional.

Dhoni promised to do his best to be available for the upcoming season if his body allowed it after helping CSK win the record-equaling fifth IPL title. Circumstantially, as you can see, this is the ideal moment to make my retirement announcement. The easy thing would be for me to say “Thank you very much,” but the difficult thing is for me to work hard for another nine months and return to play for at least one more season given the amount of love and affection I have received wherever I have been this year. I have 6-7 months to make a decision, and a lot relies on the body. Even though it’s difficult for me, it will more closely resemble a gift from my end to the fans. I feel like I should do something for them given how they’ve showed their love and affection,” Dhoni remarked.
