There will be no games played in Dominica in 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. The Dominican Republic’s government made the decision citing the incapacity of the nation to finish construction on practice and match grounds prior to the tournament’s start.
The West Indies and the United States will co-host the T20 World Cup, which will take place in the Caribbean from June 4–30 of next year, with Dominica being one of seven Caribbean nations nominated for the honour. Based on the bids from municipal governments, the ICC and Cricket West Indies collaborated to compile this list. All of the main West Indies cricketing destinations—Jamaica, Grenada, and St. Kitts and Nevis—are thought to have made bids.
Windsor Park has been selected to host one group match and two Super 8 games, the Dominican Republic government announced. This is assuming the venue fulfills the requirements outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
“Several tangible actions were taken both at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and at the Benjamin’s Park including the commencement of upgrading and enhancement of the practice and match venues, various assessments and the creation of additional pitches where necessary,” the Dominica government’s press release stated.
But according to the implementation schedules that the different contractors provided, it would not be feasible to finish these tasks by the deadline in time for the tournament to start. Because of this, it was decided that the Dominican Republic’s government would not be wise to commit to hosting any of the matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
“This decision is thought to be in everyone’s best interest, especially considering Dominica’s stellar reputation as a host for international cricket matches. Dominican Republic’s government expresses gratitude to Cricket West Indies (CWI) for its years of cooperation and anticipates more of the same in the future. The Dominican Republic’s government wishes the organizers of the June 2024 event every success.”
