England vs. Australia, Day 5 of the 2nd Ashes Test: Sunday was the last day of the second Ashes test, and it was very windy. Australia beat England’s leader, Ben Stokes, by 43 runs with a session to spare. England was about to lose, but Stokes scored an amazing 155, which reminded everyone of another memorable century in an exciting fourth-innings chase to win the Ashes test at Headingley in 2019.
Again, he gave a sold-out crowd something to look forward to and helped bring down a 371-run goal at Lord’s to 70. Then he was out when he hit Josh Hazlewood’s short ball over the top and behind to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. A rowdy Lord’s fell silent until everyone stood up to give Stokes a long standing applause as he left.
He was the seventh person to leave, but the tail kept moving for another hour. England was all out for 327, and after the winners were booed off the field, they applauded Australia on the pavilion steps. Australia is 2-0 up in the series, and if they win the third test at Headingley on Thursday, they will win their first Ashes series in England since 2001.

20:47 (IST) 02 JUL 2023 ENG vs AUS Live Score: England was beat by Australia by 43 runs.
Josh Tongue was the last player to be taken out by Mitchell Starc, giving Australia a 2-0 lead in the match. At one point during the day, around lunchtime, it looked like England was going to win the game easily, but that didn’t happen. Stokes played a great game, but it was not enough to win. Pat Cummins stuck to his plans all day and won a big race because of it. Even though Nathan Lyon, one of their best bowlers, wasn’t there, Australia bowled well and showed why they are the World Test Champions. Even though there was a lot of talk about “Bazzball” before the series, England is now down 2-0 and seems to have a lot to work on before the next game in Headingley.
20:35 (IST) 02 JUL 2023 ENG vs AUS Score: England is still fighting
Australia can now use the new ball, but Cummins doesn’t seem interested in it right now. Josh Tongue is playing a few shots while James Anderson is getting hit by a few nasty bumpers.
20:25 (IST) 02 JUL 2023 ENG vs AUS Anderson and Tongue are still alive.
James Anderson and Josh Tongue have made it through another over here. Starc has been throwing some hard bouncers, and one of them hit Anderson’s helmet and caused a pause. Australia will win the Test match as soon as they decide who will play next.
With 114/4 at the end of the day, England needs 257 more runs on the last day to tie the game and set up another exciting Ashes series. If Australia gets the six wickets they need on Sunday, they could win the Test series in England for the first time since 2001.
Even though Duckett was almost caught in the first over, he was still unbeaten on 50 and captain Ben Stokes was on 29. They got England back from being down 45-4 to being behind by 257 at stumps.
“There’s always hope with Ben there, two Bens there, Jonny (Bairstow) coming in, and the bowlers,” England’s batting coach Marcus Trescothick said. “We can play against them if they can get a high score.”
