“Extremely keen on the move”: Chelsea’s pursuit of £100m midfielder

Published:

Chelsea want Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, who wants to join.

The Blues have signed David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Joao Felix in the January transfer window (on loan). They want reinforcements.

Ben Jacobs of CBS reports that Chelsea want Caicedo in January. Brighton won’t sell the midfielder mid-season, so they’ve set a £100 million price tag.

Jacobs believes an offer above £75 million might persuade them to sell the Ecuadorian midfielder in January. Reporting:

Brighton won’t quote £100m. Caicedo is not for sale. Graham Potter’s “half-joking, “half-serious” (as Brighton CEO Paul Barber called it) valuation while he was Brighton chief is the number.
Adds:

“An offer of £75m+ (or one with a good structure for less) would still give Brighton a significant decision to make, especially with Caicedo extremely eager on the transfer. He’d love a January move to #CFC, but he’s humble and focused.
Brighton’s 21-year-old Caicedo has impressed in 21 games this season. After Jorginho and N’Golo Kante’s contracts expire in the summer, he could be a good addition to Chelsea.

Jacobs also stated that Brighton have had an offer rejected for RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara. If they sign the Malian midfielder, Chelsea might buy Caicedo in January.
Chelsea get significant injury boost before Fulham match.
Fulham visit the Blues on February 3. Chelsea may have Reece James and Ben Chilwell back for the Cottagers match.

The Blues have missed both fullbacks this season owing to injuries. West London is 10th in the Premier League, 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

James and Chilwell have been training recently and could return to the bench for Chelsea’s match against Fulham.
