According to the most recent ICC rankings, Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has risen seven ranks to take the top spot among ODI bowlers in the format.
With 16 wickets in seven innings at a 19.93 average, the 23-year-old quick is currently tied with Adam Zampa for the most wickets taken in the ODI World Cup.
Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, who now drops to second place, was overtaken by Afridi for the top slot. Additionally, Keshav Maharaj and Mohammed Siraj dropped a spot, landing in third and fourth place on the rankings, respectively. Afridi has never before held the top spot in any rating system.
After taking three wickets in nine overs against Bangladesh, where he concluded with 3 for 21, Afridi has risen to the top of the rankings. He became the third fastest player to reach 100 wickets in an ODI throughout the course of the match, and he was also the fastest fast bowler, barely ahead of Mitchell Starc, having done it in just his 51st innings.
Pakistan now has two players at the top of the batting and bowling order, with Babar Azam maintaining his lead in the batting department.
Babar has a slim two rating point advantage against Shubman Gill, who is right behind him. Babar has scored just 216 runs at an average of 30.85 with three half-centuries in just seven innings. Gill, who has amassed 104 runs at 26.00 in four innings with one half-century, hasn’t exactly lit up the tournament either.
After a brilliant start to his ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma moved up three spots to into the top five, while David Warner, who is presently second on the run-getters list with 413 in six innings at 68.83, moved up one spot to fourth.
Kuldeep Yadav and Mujeeb Ur Rahman made progress in the bowling department as they moved up to the seventh and eighth spots in the rankings. Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh is still at the top of the all-arounders list.
