In the most recent ICC men’s player rankings, India opener Shubman Gill rose to a career-high fifth spot thanks to his performance in the just-completed ODI series against the West Indies. With 126 runs from three games, including a match-winning 85 in the series finale, Gill increased his rating to 743 and is now just a few points behind Imam-ul-Haq (745) and Fakhar Zaman (755), who are currently in fourth and third place, respectively. Babar Azam of Pakistan is still well ahead at No. 1 on the ODI ranking with 886 rating points.
Ishan Kishan, who batted with Gill in the initial match, also advanced significantly in the ODI rankings, moving up nine spots to 36th. Kishan finished with 184 runs and the Player-of-the-Series award after scoring fifty runs in each of the three games.
The two bowlers who left the most impact were the seamer Shardul Thakur and wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep moved up four spots to take over the 10th position in the bowler rankings after taking seven wickets in three games, including 4 for 6 in the first ODI. With eight kills, Thakur, the series’ top wicket-taker, climbed the rankings to No. 30.
While West Indies’ chances in the ODIs weren’t great, several of their players have improved in the T20I rankings. On the batting list, Nicholas Pooran (14th) and Rovman Powell (32nd) advanced the most, while fast bowler Alzarri Joseph (13th) and spinner Akeal Hosein (14th) advanced on the bowling list.
Tilak Varma of India, who made his international debut during the current T20I series, debuted at No. 46 in the batting order after posting scores of 39, 51, and 49* in his first three matches.
