After the West Indies were knocked out of the Twenty20 World Cup tournament so quickly, head coach Phil Simmons has decided to step down from his position, as the team has announced.
Simmons is going to leave the Windies after the conclusion of their two-test series against Australia, which will take place between November 30 and December 12.
Due to the fact that they were defeated by Ireland and Scotland in two of their three group matches, the West Indies were unable to advance to the Super 12s stage of the World Cup, which was held in Australia.
The West Indies’ performance in their final match summed up their performance throughout the tournament. Despite having the potential to have a powerful batting attack, the team made only 5-146 from their 20 overs against Ireland. The team then allowed Ireland to take control of the powerplay, which resulted in the Irish cruising to a 73-run opening partnership between Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie at a rate of 10 runs per over, which set them up for an easy victory. Since the first World Cup, which was held in South Africa in 2007, this is the earliest that the Windies have been eliminated from the competition.

In 2019, Simmons resumed his role as captain of the West Indies for the second time in his career. The team won the world T20 championship in 2016, which was his first year as captain.
