R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were instrumental in India’s defeat of the number one-ranked Test team in the world, Australia, by innings in Nagpur last week. Together, they caused the most damage possible to the Australian batting lineup. Their recent performances have resulted in significant advancements in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers, which are the most recent rankings to be released.

Ashwin finished the match with match figures of 8/79, including a five-wicket haul in Australia’s second innings. This was the 31st five-wicket haul of his sparkling Test career. Ashwin was the top wicket-taker in the competition. As a result, he moved up to the second spot in the rankings, and he is now only 21 rating points behind Australia’s captain and fast bowler Pat Cummins, who is currently the top-ranked bowler in the format around the world.

It was Jadeja’s first international match after a long injury layoff, but he was in excellent touch with the bat and the ball during the Nagpur Test. He produced a solid all-round performance that belied the fact that it was his first international match since the injury.

After the tourists made the decision to bat first, the left-arm spinner Jadeja took 5/47 from Australia’s batting lineup on the first day of the first match of the series. As a result, the hosts were bowled out for 177.

After that, Jadeja took two wickets and 34 runs off of Australia’s second innings, which resulted in 91 runs being scored before the session was over.

The match was also quite successful for the captain of the India Test team, Rohit Sharma, who scored the only century from either team during the competition. In their most recent ICC Test rankings for batters, India moved up two spots, moving from 10th to 8th place as a result of his score of 120 in their total of 400 all out.

Both David Warner and Usman Khawaja, who open for Australia, were unable to get their teams off to a good start in either inning.

Warner scored 11 runs over the course of the two innings, which resulted in him dropping from the 14th spot to the 20th spot, while his opening partner Khawaja is now in the 10th spot after managing 1 and 5 runs.

In addition to picking up a wicket, India all-rounder Axar Patel posted a score of 84 out of 174 runs, which was the second-highest individual score of the test. As a result of his performance, he has moved up to the seventh position in the all-rounder rankings.

After scoring an outstanding 182 runs against Zimbabwe in the first Test, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite has also moved up in the rankings of batters who perform in the Test format. Brathwaite is now in the 21st position after climbing up four places.
