In 2024, Pujara will play for Sussex for a third season

For the 2024 season, Cheteshwar Pujara and Australian batter Daniel Hughes will both be returning to Sussex as foreign additions for the team.

For the first seven County Championship games of his third consecutive season with Sussex, Pujara will be eligible. Hughes, on the other hand, can participate in both the County Championship and the T20 Vitality Blast from the beginning of the league to the conclusion of it. They are the club’s foreign additions for the 2024 season, joining bowlers Nathan McAndrew of Australia and Jayden Seales of the West Indies.

India In his eight hundreds and three half-centuries, Pujara, a test batsman, has amassed 1,863 runs at an average of 64.24 in his eighteen Championship matches for Sussex thus far. In a 2022 match against Derbyshire, he amassed his highest score of 231 while sharing a stand of 351 with Tom Haines, who also achieved a double century. Pujara hit 20 fours and two sixes en route to his greatest innings of 151 in 2023 against Gloucestershire.

“I have enjoyed my time at Hove the last couple of seasons and couldn’t be more delighted to be back again with the Sussex family,” Pujara stated in a statement. “I am looking forward to joining the team and contributing to its success.”

Hughes, an aggressive top-order batsman for the Sydney Sixers and NSW Blues who will turn 35 in February, with a first-class cricket average of 36.90 and a high knock of 178. Hughes has amassed eight century and 26 half-centuries in his 137 innings.

After winning his first Steve Waugh Medal in 2017–18, he won his second one in 2019–20. Additionally, he was named NSW Blues Marsh One-Day Cup Player of the Season.

In Twenty20 cricket, Hughes has amassed 2,204 runs at a strike average of 120.89 in 93 innings. He was a member of the Sydney Sixers side that captured the Big Bash League in 2020 and 2021.

“Playing county cricket has been a long-held ambition for me,” Hughes stated. “I’m thrilled to have that chance at Sussex. The team’s goals are fantastic, and I’m eager to get to Hove and support Sussex’s success along the road.”

Hughes was characterized by Farbrace as “a top-class player” with a wealth of expertise. “We are all very much looking forward to working him and enjoying how he helps our team on and off the field,” he stated.
