Delhi Capitals bowled Gujarat Titans out for a meager 89 runs with the ball after putting on an outstanding display with the ball and then easily ended the pursuit. Gujarat suffered their third defeat in their previous four games as a result.
DC maintains a chokehold on Gujarat
After being asked to bat, Gujarat Titans were unable to escape the chokehold that Delhi Capitals had on them. The pacers set the tone: Wriddhiman Saha was cleaned up by Mukesh Kumar, and Ishant Sharma had Shubman Gill chipping to cover. Their breakthroughs were so frequent that Gujarat’s highest partnership during the innings was just 18. The run-out of Sai Sudharsan and Tristan Stubbs’s double-wicket over were highlights of DC’s unrelenting mastery with the ball on a field that leant toward stickiness.
Shining behind the stumps is Rishabh Pant.
The accurate bowling of Rishabh Pant was enhanced by his superb wicket-keeping. The match began with a spectacular diving catch by David Miller off Ishant, followed by a rapid stumping of Abhinav Manohar and Shahrukh Khan. Pant had the joint-highest number of IPL wicket-keeper dismissals for a Delhi franchise with four.
Not able to reverse it for Gujarat as a batter?
Nobody lasted long enough to make an impression, despite everything that might have gone wrong for them. The only player to risk his arm from the lower order to score 31—the highest score of the innings—was Rashidh Khan. Gujarat was knocked out for the lowest score on their own field due to the unrelenting loss of wickets. Since the Impact Sub was introduced, this was the first time a team had failed to score 100.
What was the outcome of the pursuit?
Generally fluid and extremely fast. With two significant losses already in the competition, DC’s NRR was in dire need of reinforcements. They came with all guns blazing because here was their chance to make good on some of that. With a 10-ball 20, Jake Fraser-McGurk initially set the tone, but opportunities also arrived with the high-risk strategy. Fraser-McGurk was removed by Spencer Johnson, and Sandeep Warrier, who was picked out for boundaries, then struck twice to remove Prithvi Shaw and Abhishek Porel. They eventually achieved a huge victory in less than nine overs. Their NRR increased from -0.975 to -0.074 as a result of the victory, giving them a much-needed lift and moving them up to sixth place in the points table.
Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals 92/4 in 8.5 overs (Jake Fraser-Mcgurk 20) defeated Gujarat Titans 89 in 17.3 overs (Rashid Khan 31; Mukesh Kumar 3-14) by 6 wickets.
What comes next?
For the first time this season, the Delhi Capitals take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 20 at their old “home” field, while the Gujarat Titans visit Chandigarh to play Punjab Kings on April 21.
