West Indies 151 (Motie 38*, Thakur 4-37, Mukesh 3-30) were defeated by India 351 for 5 (Gill 85, Kishan 77, Pandya 70*, Samson 51, Shepherd 2-73) by 200 runs.
In the series-deciding game in Tarouba, India’s batting prowess helped them defeat West Indies by 200 runs. They have now defeated the West Indies in 13 straight ODI series dating back to 2006.
India, who was once again without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, compiled a massive 351 for 5 thanks to half centuries from Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Hardik Pandya.
West Indies never returned to the game after that. Their chase was ruined by Mukesh Kumar’s three early wickets. They were at 50 for 6 when Shardul Thakur added two more runs in his subsequent overs. Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie’s 59-run partnership for the ninth wicket merely served to postpone the inevitable.
After Shai Hope decided to field in the morning, Kishan and Gill gave India a quick start of 143 in 19.4 overs. In contrast to the first two ODIs in Bridgetown, both openers took pleasure in the ball coming onto the bat. Kishan too enjoyed his good fortune. Although he didn’t always appear to be in control, he finished with 77 off 64 balls despite being dropped by Keacy Carty on 9 and avoiding being run out at 63. In the series, it was his third half-century in as many games.
Kyle Mayers caused Kishan some trouble at first. In three overs, Mayers beat his outside edge twice when bowling with the new ball around the wicket. In response, Kishan danced down the track and scored back-to-back fours on him.
Gill faced just one ball in each of the opening two overs before getting going with a pulled four off Jayden Seales in the third. He scored two more boundaries in the fast bowler’s subsequent over, the first with a short-arm jab and the second with a punch between cover and point.
By the conclusion of the tenth over, India had reached 73 without losing thanks to Gill and Kishan. Gill concentrated on playing risk-free cricket when the pitch limits were loosened. Kishan, however, persisted in taking his shots. He drilled Motie to the ground after hitting Joseph with sixes and fours. He reached 49 from 39 balls after another six, this one coming from Romario Shepherd. Four balls later, he reached his half-century.
When Yannic Cariah had Kishan stumped for 77 off 64 balls, the opening stand was broken. As Kishan attempted to use his feet, the legspinner defeated him in both the flight and the turn.
In just his second ODI, Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t survive long before being edged by Joseph to first slip for eight.
Samson tried to attack right away, and in his first 13 balls, he blasted three sixes. He was particularly harsh on Cariah, scoring 28 runs off of just ten deliveries. Samson accelerated to fifty in 39 balls despite Motie keeping him in check and allowing only four runs in 12 balls.
In just 8.5 overs, Samson and Gill contributed 69 runs, with Gill scoring 18 off 12. When Samson failed to clear mid-off against Shepherd shortly after reaching his fifty, the stand was destroyed. Samson’s dismissal slowed down scoring as well: India only scored 23 runs in the following eight overs after he was out in the 32nd over.
During this era, Gill was also lost to India. He was on pace to score a hundred when he was out for 85 off 92 balls after a length delivery from Motie became lodged in the ground and was easily caught by short midwicket.
Suryakumar Yadav showed a peek of his T20 proficiency while batting at No. 6. With a six on each side of the wicket behind the square, he scored 35 from 30. Hardik also delivered a couple lusty knocks towards the end of the innings to remain unbeaten. He accelerated only just in time. He was on 11 off 22 at one point. He scored nearly two runs per ball off the last 30 balls to finish on 70 not out off 52.
With Mukesh getting Brandon King to edge one behind in the very first over, the West Indies’ chase never got going. Mayers chopped one onto his stumps and Hope nicked one to first slip as the seamer continued to hammer the excellent length outside off. West Indies were reduced to 17 for 3 by those blows.
Jaydev Unadkat needed just five balls to make his own incision while playing his first ODI in over ten years. In order for Gill to make a low catch, he persuaded Carty to edge one to the right of first slip. Shimron Hetmyer and Shepherd put up less of a fight and were defeated by Thakur.
The West Indies’ lower order struggled against Kuldeep Yadav’s variations, just like in the first ODI. For almost ten overs, Joseph and Motie held off the Indian bowlers before Thakur bounced Joseph out. To complete the formalities, Thakur rattled Seales’ stumps in his subsequent over.
