IPL playoffs in Chennai and Ahmedabad; the final will be held in Chepauk on May 26

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 residual schedule has been revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), ending the wait.

The main revelation from the show, which Cricbuzz saw, is the assurance that there won’t be any IPL 2024 matches held overseas. The 74 matches on the schedule are all in India, with Ahmedabad and Chennai hosting the competition’s last two rounds.

The Qualifier 2 and Final will take place at the Chepauk in Chennai on May 24 and 26, while the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera on May 21 and 22. The selection of Chennai and Ahmedabad as the playoff cities makes sense. The playoffs will be held in the home stadiums of the past year’s finalists, the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings, with the championship game being held in Chennai, the city of champions. It was also the site of the season’s first game.

The dates of the first 21 games in the first batch have been made public by the BCCI, and they have planned a schedule in which the 22nd game will begin on Monday, April 8, immediately. The Chennai Super Kings game opens the second leg, just like it did the first. On April 8, the reigning champions and Kolkata Knight Riders will square off at the Chepauk. It is going to be a night game.

The news that the full 2024 Indian Premier League would take place in India was initially reported by Cricbuzz, amid rumors that the BCCI was considering holding some of the league’s second stage in the United Arab Emirates. Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, ruled out that option in an interview with Cricbuzz. The IPL operating team has developed a well-thought-out schedule that draws from all Indian centers.

The BCCI had a hurdle due to security worries around the upcoming General Elections in India. The elections are set to take place in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, with the counting taking place on June 4. The BCCI deserves praise for keeping the home and away structure while also managing to prevent conflicts with the election dates in specific centers throughout the seven phases.

A few games are slated to take place in Dharamsala, Punjab Kings’ customary second center, according to the calendar. The Punjab team’s home games are scheduled for May 5 (a day game against Chennai Super Kings) and May 9 (a night game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru) in the hill town. The favored second base of the Rajasthan Royals, Guwahati, is host to two games as well. They take on Kolkata Knight Riders on May 19 and Punjab Kings on May 15. It should be noted that the RR-KKR game is the final one of the league phase.

The league’s two most successful teams, Chennai and Mumbai, will only square off once in the 2024 Indian Premier League on April 14 in Mumbai. After hosting the second leg of the WPL 2024, Delhi will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their inaugural match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 20.

The final home game for CSK is scheduled on May 12 against Rajasthan Royals. Six days later, they would play their final league match at Bengaluru. These games in Chepauk and the IPL could be MS Dhoni’s final ones if they don’t make it to the playoffs. This season’s matchup between CSK and Gujarat Titans, who competed in the Ahmedabad final last year, will take place there on May 10. The major match between MI and CSK at Wankhede Stadium is set for April 14, which is also the day of Tamil New Year.

The playoffs start on May 21 after a one-day break on May 20.
