Even though Rohit Sharma will not be able to participate due to injury, Aakash Chopra, a former player for India, believes that stand-in captain KL Rahul would not start for Team India in the third One-Day International match against Bangladesh on Saturday.
Due to a thumb injury that he sustained during fielding, Rohit did not lead off the previous game’s batting lineup. Acting skipper Rahul opted to stay at his current batting position of No. 5 and let Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan start the innings instead of promoting himself up the order. Additionally, he elevated Washington Sundar to the No. 4 position.
“KL Rahul, who serves as the ODI team’s vice captain, will take charge of the batting lineup and guide the team to victory in this match. However, despite having the opportunity to open in the match before this one, he did not take use of it. That probably puts an end to any more doubts about whether or not he will be opening. He is going to bat at the No. 5 position while also keeping wickets.”
Ishan Kishan is the one who will open with Dhawan, according to Aakash Chopra.
Ishan Kishan is expected to bat ahead of Rohit Sharma in the third one-day international, according to Aakash Chopra’s assessment.
Chopra believes that the left-hander from Jharkhand has done enough with the opportunities he has been given to be ahead of the other candidates in the line of succession, despite the fact that uncapped players such as Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi are waiting in the wings.
Chopra said: “I believe that there will be one change, and that change will be Ishan Kishan on the field in place of Rohit Sharma. Ishan’s numbers place him ahead of Patidar and Tripathi in my opinion, even if it does mean that there will be two left-handed batsmen at the top of the order, despite the fact that many people claim that Patidar or Tripathi can make their debut.”
Aakash Chopra is also of the opinion that if the visitors want to add some meat to their batting, which has been suffering, they may go in with five bowlers and add an extra batter in the form of Tripathi or Patidar. This would be Aakash Chopra’s recommendation. He added:
“By removing one of their bowling options, India could contemplate selecting either Tripathi or Patidar in their batting lineup. Because the pitch in Chattogram is typically favourable for batting, it is recommended that you bring along an additional bowler. The manner in which India has been batting, on the other hand, is cause for concern. After that, you will only have batsmen of the calibre of Sundar, Axar, and Shahbaz to work with at the No. 6 position. Therefore, in order to improve their batting, I believe they should consider taking the field with only five different bowling choices.”
