It has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that there would be no international staging of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The statement follows rumors that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) might be the new location because of the Indian general elections.
Jay Shah, the secretary for the BCCI, told Cricbuzz that the league will take place entirely in India and refuted any rumors that it would be moved elsewhere. “No, it won’t be relocated abroad,” Shah said on Saturday, March 16. to Cricbuzz.
There were rumors that certain IPL teams had asked for their matches to be moved because of the approaching elections, and that members of the BCCI were even considering having the second half of the IPL held in the United Arab Emirates. But these rumors are put to rest by Shah’s response.
The dates for the general elections, which are set to take place in seven stages from April 19 to June 4, have been released by the Indian Election Commission. The BCCI is anticipated to announce the complete IPL schedule now that the polling dates have been finalized. As of right now, just the first 21 games’ dates—March 22–April 7—have been revealed. The first IPL match will pit the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Chennai Super Kings.
Iyer departs for Kolkata.
On Saturday, Shreyas Iyer left for Kolkata to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders with his colleagues. Iyer’s availability for the IPL was heavily rumored from the start, given that he missed the last two days of the just finished Ranji Trophy in Mumbai because of back trouble.
Despite doubts about his fitness, scans purportedly revealed no serious problems, allowing him to play in the IPL right away. The KKR officials agree with this judgment and have anticipated his involvement from the start.
On March 23, the Knight Riders will play their home opener against SunRisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens.
