JAY SHAH GIVES AN UPDATE ON ASIA CUP VENUE DECISION

Published:

After the IPL finals, a choice will be made about who will host the Asia Cup in 2023. Jay Shah said in a statement last year that the Blues will not go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. This got the attention of the Pakistan Cricket Board, and since then there have been a lot of talks about what could be a good compromise for hosting the event. Early this year, the PCB came up with a plan for a mixed model in which India would play some games at neutral sites and other games in Pakistan.

India said no to the mixed mode right away, and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh agreed with them. The SLC and BCB agreed with India that Pakistan would not go to India for the Asia Cup. After this talk, Sri Lanka volunteered to be the site of the Asia Cup. But Jay Shah has said that the final decision will now be made after the Indian Premier League finals. He said that the heads of the different groups will meet in Ahmedabad after the IPL final to talk about the next step of the Asia Cup.

Pakistan will be the host country for the 2023 Asia Cup, no matter where it takes place. This is the same as last year, when Sri Lanka hosted the event and UAE was the site. “The heads of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will be at the Tata IPL 2023 final on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. “We will talk with them to figure out the next steps for the 2023 Asia Cup,” Jay Shah said.

Najam Sethi said that the PCB is waiting for an official answer from the ACC about the “hybrid model” it offered for hosting the Asia Cup. In his speech, he said that the PCB is ready to play India in a neutral place, like Dubai. “From what I heard, there were doubts about whether or not the neutral place would be in Dubai. “As the host, I didn’t want to do it in Sri Lanka,” Sethi said.
