Lionel Messi inspires Victoria Azarenka, Andy Murray, and other tennis stars as Argentina advances to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals

Victoria Azarenka, Andy Murray, and other tennis players reacted to Argentina-Netherlands on Saturday (December 10).

Argentina won 4-3 on penalties to go to the semifinals. Lionel Messi scored one goal and assisted another for Argentina.

The PSG player helped Nahuel Molina in the first half and scored a penalty to put Argentina up 2-0. Wout Weghorst scored twice in extra time to force penalties, which the South Americans won.

Victoria Azarenka, who watched the match, called Messi “The King” on Instagram.

Andy Murray nicknamed Messi “Messiah” in response to Piers Morgan calling him “Missi”

Monica Puig, who retired from tennis this year, celebrated on Twitter.

Juan Martin del Potro posted a photo of Messi hugging Emiliano Martinez, the Argentine goalie who made two key saves in the penalty shootout.

Victoria Azarenka says it’s been her lifelong ambition to see Lionel Messi play.

Victoria Azarenka is a passionate soccer lover who is cheering on Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

She watched Argentina’s World Cup opener in Qatar and was excited to see Messi.

Azarenka wrote, “Been my life dream to see Messi at #WorldCup2022.”

The two-time Grand Slam winner also uploaded a photo of her son Leo watching soccer on their dog Guapo.

Azarenka tweeted, “Watching #WorldCupQatar2022.”

Azarenka reached the semifinals of the Guadalajara Open but lost to Jessica Pegula 7-6(3), 6-1. Her best Grand Slam results were Round 16 at the Australian Open and US Open.

The 33-year-old finished 2022 with a 24-13 record and World No. 26 ranking. She’s won 21 WTA singles titles, including the 2012 and 2013 Australian Opens.
