Kwena Maphaka, a teenage speed sensation, has joined the Mumbai Indians to fill in for the injured Dilshan Madushanka.

The 17-year-old left-arm fast bowler Maphaka of South Africa was just voted Player of the Tournament at the Under-19 World Cup. In that competition, he took the most wickets of any speed bowler in the history of the U19 World Cup with 21. He will pay his base fee of INR 50 lakh to join the five-time IPL champions.

At the age of 15, Maphaka, a fellow countryman of Kagiso Rabada, was selected for the U-19 team and has since competed in two junior World Cups. The two attended the same school, St. Stithians. He has already played for the Emerging and ‘A’ teams of South Africa.
