Carlos Alcaraz lost to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the Miami Open, and Novak Djokovic will take over as the world’s best player on Monday. Sinner beats Alcaraz in Indian Wells to get his revenge, and he will now play Daniil Medvedev in the final; Karen Khachanov, who is also Russian, loses to Medvedev.

Novak Djokovic will go back to being the best player in the world on Monday, after Carlos Alcaraz lost to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the Miami Open.

Sinner beat Alcaraz in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, and 6-2. Last month, Alcaraz beat Sinner in the semi-finals at Indian Wells, California, on his way to winning that tournament and going to the top of the rankings.

Sinner will now play Daniil Medvedev. After beating fellow Russian Karen Khachanov 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, Medvedev became the first player since Ivan Lendl in 1981 to reach a fifth straight ATP final.

Alcaraz told reporters, “When I play against Jannik, the crowd is different. I think people from all over the world are watching this match because it’s so beautiful to see.”

The Spaniard had to win the Miami Open to stay ahead of Djokovic, who missed the American swing because he wasn’t up to date on his shots.

Alcaraz said, “I don’t think about the fact that I lost the number one and the Sunshine Double.

“Of course, it’s a shame, but I think I’m going to have more years to try to get it (win Indian Wells and Miami back to back). But all I can think about is to improve my level to beat Jannik.”

Djokovic hasn’t played tennis in the US since 2021. However, after the Senate voted to end Covid-19 measures, he will be able to play at the US Open in August and September, which will be shown live on Sky Sports.

This year, the 35-year-old tried to get special permission to play at Indian Wells and Miami, but officials said no.
