The Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was held in Ahmedabad on May 27. The meeting took into account complaints about the facilities at different stadiums across the country and agreed to set up a committee to figure out how to give grants to different stadiums.
In particular, the BCCI members talked about how some grounds’ features had been criticized, mostly on social media, and how they wanted to improve the grounds for people who came to the grounds.
The first item on the meeting’s five-point agenda was “Forming an Infrastructure Development and Subsidy Committee.” The SGM gave the people in charge permission to form the group. The fields should be all fixed up by the time the World Cup takes place in October and November.
In a similar way, the SGM gave the office-holders permission to take a call about putting together a working group for the World Cup. The group is likely to be put together after the IPL final on Sunday, which is in a few days.
Also, BCCI has said that the World Cup sites will be announced at the end of the World Test Championship in London. At that time, the plan will also be made public, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said. From June 7 to 12, the WTC final will be held at The Oval.
The BCCI said that each office holder will be in charge of a venue for the World Cup. They will be responsible for that location. “We’re looking at all the major cities as possible tournament sites,” Shah said.
After the ACC meeting, a decision will be made about the Asia Cup.
Shah said that after a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), they will decide where the Asia Cup will be held. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is in charge of hosting, has suggested that the regional championship be held in both Pakistan and the UAE. However, the members have not yet agreed to this idea. “Once we meet with the ACC members, we’ll decide what will happen with the Asia Cup in 2023,” Shah said. The Asia Cup is probably going to happen in September.
Shah said that the match against Afghanistan will happen before the World Cup, but he did not say when. It was first thought that it would be held at the end of June, between the WTC final and the West Indies series in July and August. However, Cricadda recently stated that these dates are unlikely to be considered. “We will go ahead with the series this year, before the World Cup,” Shah said, leaving the matter in suspense.
About the WPL and the women’s coach
The BCCI had said before that it wanted the WPL to happen around Diwali, and Shah suggested that the second season of the league will happen next year instead of during Diwali 2023, when the World Cup will be held in India. “We’ll talk to the presenter and decide on a time frame. “We will look for a time when we can hold the next WPL before March 2024,” he said.
He also said that the short list of candidates for head coach of the women’s team has already been made. “The CAC will get together and decide what to do. The BCCI secretary said, “We might have a new head coach for the women’s team before the Bangladesh series.”
