Rahul Dravid will be present at the Asia Cup 2023 selection meeting as the main emphasis will be on batting, according to reports

According to reports on Cricbuzz, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid will travel to Delhi for the Asia Cup 2023 selection meeting. He will be seated with the captain, Rohit Sharma, and the new head selector, Ajit Agarkar, to decide the team for the competition and the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023.

According to information obtained, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made Rahul Dravid’s attendance at the meeting a must because of the impending importance of his upcoming tasks. But this will be the first time in a while that the team selection process will involve the head coach.

According to this, BCCI might select the same side for the ICC World Cup in 2023, the Asia Cup, and a three-match ODI series against Australia. Since the squad has been lacking middle-order batters, the management will have a lot of topics to discuss.

The main focus will be on the selection of injured KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. There have also been suggestions for Tilak Varma and Ravichandran Ashwin to be a part of the team for the next competitions. In the few T20I matches he has played for India, Varma has impressed many with his maturity. His left-handedness might also be an asset.

But when it comes to Ravichandran Ashwin, Rahul Dravid and the other players must choose between Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal because Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav appear to be lock-ins given their recent performance.

The players will travel to NCA in Bengaluru after being chosen on August 21 along with head coach Rahul Dravid. On August 24, the camp will begin, followed by a flight to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup.

Finding depth in our batting has been an issue we’ve tried to solve for the 2023 Asia Cup, according to Rahul Dravid.
Rahul Dravid discussed the team’s weaknesses after the T20I series loss to the West Indies. He claimed that they are striving for improvement and aiming to add depth to their batting.

“I think that in terms of our squad here, probably didn’t give us the flexibility in some ways to be able to be able to change the combinations a little bit,” he said. But I believe that moving forward, we must consider those areas where we can improve.

One thing we’ve been working on is adding depth to our batting. We are doing everything we can to be as successful as we can, but that is unquestionably an area we can examine: how to maintain a strong bowling attack without jeopardizing our batting depth.
