Virat Kohli, the former captain of India, has finally come out of his shell and scored his first century in a test since November 2019. However, prior to this magnificent innings of 186 runs, the Indian batter was criticized for his gameplay against spinners in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy. Even so, Ricky Ponting, who used to be the captain of Australia, came out again to support Virat Kohli.
Yesterday evening, after a long battle, Virat Kohli got to 50 runs in a test match. The player wasn’t out, so he or she would get another chance to bat the next day. People thought the batter would find it hard to pick up where he left off, but that wasn’t the case. Virat Kohli was not only careful, but he was also firm in making sure he didn’t let the chance go by. Ricky Ponting said on ICC Review before this over that he wasn’t worried about how Kohli was playing.
“For Kohli, I have said that over and over, champion players always find a way. He might be in a bit of a drought at the moment, and might be not scoring runs which we all expect him to score but he is a realist as well. When you are a batsman and your are struggling and not scoring runs, you are pretty aware of that yourself. I am not concerned about this because I am confident he will bounce back,” Ricky Ponting said.
Proving Ricky Ponting right, Virat Kohli reached his century on the 4th day of the 4th Border-Gavaskar Trophy game. Kohli was finally out after a long day, and India took the lead by 92 runs. Interestingly, despite his struggles throughout the series, Virat Kohli became the highest run-scorer for India in the ongoing series with 297 runs. In addition to Virat Kohli’s knock, Axar Patel once again provided team support with the bat. Shreyas Iyer couldn’t play because of back pain, so Axar Patel took the lead and scored 79 runs quickly from 113 balls. With India currently in a 2-1 lead and the last day of the game to go, Australia is, most likely to push for a draw.
