Sajana Sajeevan, Asha Sobhana receive their first call-up to India

In the 16-member team announced for the forthcoming five-match trip of Bangladesh, WPL 2024 players Asha Sobhana and Sajana Sajeevan have been rewarded with their first-ever India T20I call-ups. Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues, who amassed 235 runs for the Delhi Capitals, the runners-up, has been left off.

In the WPL 2024, Asha secured the second-highest number of wickets (12) and was the second-best for the champions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, after Purple Cap winner Shreyanka Patil (13). Meanwhile, Sajana made her mark with a first-ball six to give Mumbai Indians a thrilling opening-night victory over subsequent finalists Delhi Capitals.

Radha Yadav and D Hemalatha return. Radha had not played since India’s semi-final loss from the 202 T20 World Cup in South Africa, but the Railways hitter last played for India in the 2022 Asia Cup final in Bangladesh.

The Indian squad has lost both Minnu Mani and Mannat Kashyap. They played in the team’s final Twenty20 International match of the season, which took place at home against Australia.

India will play five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in Bangladesh in September and October in anticipation of the country hosting the T20 World Cup. The first game of the series is scheduled for April 28 and the last one for May 9. All of the matches, with the exception of the third and fourth T20I, will take place at night in Sylhet.
