Set to make their PSL debuts are Sams, Hendricks, and Ngidi

Published:

After being selected in the draft held on Wednesday in Lahore, South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks and Australia’s Daniel Sams, an all-arounder, will play in their first Premier League matches. The Karachi Kings selected Sams, the Multan Sultans selected Hendricks, and Peshawar Zalmi selected Ngidi as a backup.

South Africa batsman Rassie van der Dussen, who was chosen in the platinum category alongside Fakhar Zaman by the reigning champion Lahore Qalandars, will be making a return to the PSL. Sahibzada Farhan, the National T20 Cup’s top run scorer from 2023–24, was also signed by Qalandars.

In addition to Hendricks, the losing finalist Sultans of the previous year also included England all-rounder David Willey and batter Dawid Malan. Tymal Mills and Jordan Cox, two English players, were heavily invested in by Islamabad United. Sams’ team was augmented by Kieron Pollard, Tim Seifert, and Muhammad Nawaz from Karachi Kings.

Hard-hitting Asif Ali and Afghan wristspinner Noor Ahmad join Ngidi at Zalmi. In addition to choosing Muhammad Amir, Quetta Gladiators also brought in the West Indies duo of Akeal Hosein and Sherfane Rutherford.

Six criteria were used for player selection in the PSL 2024 draft. Platinum, diamond, gold, silver, rising, and additional were among them. Teams were required to occupy three positions in the gold, diamond, and platinum categories. After that, they had to complete five in the emerging and silver categories and two in the supplementary. In order to complete their 18-player squads, the six PSL teams filled the voids with 485 overseas players who had initially registered to participate in the draft.
