Shaheen Afridi Matches Shahid Afridi’s Huge World Cup Record for Australia versus Pakistan

Published:

Shaheen Afridi, the star left-arm bowler for the Pakistan National Cricket Team, has tied his father-in-law Shahid Afridi’s incredible record at the ICC Cricket World Cups.

In the 18th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which took place on Friday, October 20, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Shaheen Afridi was the preferred bowler for the Babar Azam-led team. When every other bowler was out of the game, the left-arm quick struck brilliantly.

Australia was asked to bat first, and they got off to an incredible start with openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh playing attacking cricket. The two went on the attack, turning their strong starts into huge scores against the Pakistani bowlers.

Warner and Marsh both played outstanding batting and finished with magnificent hundreds to confound the opposition. They laid the groundwork for a 400+ total when they added 259 runs in 203 balls.

Shaheen Afridi Matches the Record Set by Shahid Afridi
Shaheen Afridi took the first wicket for the team, which enabled Pakistan to stage an incredible comeback in the game. Mitchell Marsh was first taken out for 121, and he then stopped allowing the Australians to breathe.

Shaheen Afridi removed Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc in the process of completing his five-wicket haul. In addition, Usama Mir and Haris Rauf contributed significant wickets to prevent Australia from beyond 400 runs. The Australians could only muster 367/9.

In the meantime, Shaheen Afridi achieved a 5-wicket haul, matching Shahid Afridi’s incredible record. Having taken two five-wicket hauls in World Cups, he tied his father-in-law Shahid Afridi’s record for the most fifers for Pakistan.

With his brilliant bowling, Shaheen also tied Mitchell Starc’s enormous record. After 48 One-Day Internationals, he tied the record for most wickets by a fast bowler. In 48 ODI matches, he has claimed 95 wickets, exactly like Mitchell Starc did previously.
