Shikhar Dhawan, an Indian batter, was “a little bit shocked” to learn he wasn’t selected for the Asian Games team, but he still plans to make a comeback.
The BCCI named a second-string squad for the Games, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, in place of India’s first-choice players. The World Cup will begin shortly after the Games in Hangzhou. Dhawan had taken leadership of the backup squad on four prior occasions when first-choice players were absent, resting, or involved in another series going on at the same time.
“I was a little taken aback when my name wasn’t there. Then, though, I said, “You just have to accept it; they have a different thought process,” according to Dhawan to PTI. “I’m glad Rutu [Gaikwad] will be the side’s leader. There are all the young boys, and I have no doubt that they will succeed.
Dhawan claimed he was remaining healthy in case he was called back, despite the fact that he hasn’t added to his 167 ODIs since December of last year. I shall, of course, be prepared. I maintain my fitness because of this. Whether it is 1% or 20%, there is always a chance.
“I still enjoy playing the game and working out; these are the things I can control. I respect whatever decision is made.
“I have not discussed my future with any selectors. I continue to visit the National Cricket Academy there in Bengaluru. The amenities are excellent, and I have a good time there. My career has been formed by NCA, and I am thankful for that.
Dhawan is content for the time being to focus on leading Punjab Kings to victory in the IPL as their captain. “My mood is quite joyful right now. I consider myself really fortunate to have such a fantastic career and to help the Indian team.
“At this point, you proceed annually. I am in excellent physical shape, and I am competing for Punjab Kings in the IPL. Next year, perhaps, we can accomplish it.
