SL vs. AUS: David Warner lashes out at the umpire following his LBW dismissal

Published:

On Monday, October 16, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, during the 14th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, 36-year-old David Warner of the Australia National Cricket Team was left furiously angry after being out LBW.

In addition to smashing an incredible-looking six against the Lankan Lions, David Warner looked amazing at the bat. However, the 23-year-old left-arm bowler Dilshan Madushanka trapped him for just six runs on eleven balls, ending his innings.

Madushanka produced a back of a length delivery that tilted in towards leg-stump on the opening ball of the fourth over. Warner failed to catch the ball, causing it to hit his pads. The ball appeared to travel down the leg side at first, but Joel Wilson, the on-field umpire, raised his finger.

David Warner accepted the DRS right away, and an upstairs decision was sent. There was no contact between the bat and the ball, according to the ball tracking. In addition, the on-field umpire made the call because the ball was striking the leg stump.

David Warner became enraged and yelled something at umpire Wilson as soon as the call appeared on the screen. He was furious and kept saying things as he made his way back to the pavilion after exiting.

Prior to this, Sri Lanka chose to bat first in the game after winning the toss. The choice paid off for the side as they took full advantage of the circumstances and thoroughly embarrassed the Australians.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera, the opening batsmen, looked fantastic in the middle and combined to play an attacking style of cricket. Following their first wicket loss at 125, the Kusal Mendis-led team had a terrible spell as they dropped wickets often and were eventually bowled out for 209.

With four wickets, Adam Zampa was the most effective bowler for Australia. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, who each took two wickets, provided him with strong support. Glenn Maxwell also took one wicket.
