SLC notifies BCCI of Hasaranga’s unavailability and withdraws him from the IPL in 2024

Published:

In the IPL 2024, Wanindu Hasaranga will not take part. The BCCI has been notified by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that the leg-spinner is injured and will not be able to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the league this season. The team is reportedly searching for a replacement as of the last word.

Sources close to the matter claim that SLC has written to the BCCI to inform them that the 26-year-old will miss the season due to rehabilitation and relaxation required to mend his left ankle. He is said to have spoken with a specialist in Dubai a few days ago, who suggested him to take preventative measures.

The player’s manager, Shyam, told Cricbuzz, “I think so.” “The BCCI has been notified in writing by Sri Lanka Cricket of his unavailability. He traveled to Dubai for three days in order to receive medical advice. The expert’s recommendation is that he should take it easy rather than play in this season’s Indian Premier League given the existing circumstances.”

The manager assured this publication a few days ago that Hasaranga will undoubtedly attend SRH.

The fact that Hasaranga withdrew raises some clear concerns regarding foreign participants signing up for the auction and then withdrawing for unclear reasons. In this instance, he was chosen for a Test series in Bangladesh that began on March 22, the day the IPL officially began, by the SLC, which has granted permission for his withdrawal.

Strangely, the ICC would have taken disciplinary action against Hasaranga if he had not been called up from retirement and selected for the Test team. This would have prevented him from captaining Sri Lanka in the opening four matches of the T20 World Cup in June.

There is a belief in the IPL that some foreign players will miss the competition if they don’t receive a good price in the auction, as this website has previously reported. Hasaranga was originally going to get INR 10.75 crores, but after RCB released him, his auction price crashed to INR 1.5 crores, which is the base price that SRH paid for him this season. His manager has refuted any connection between the auction value and the withdrawal.
