Sri Lanka will play Zimbabwe at home to start their World Cup preparations

Published:

In January, Zimbabwe will go on a three-ODI and three T20I tour of Sri Lanka. Both the bilateral T20I series and the ODI series between the two teams will be played in Sri Lanka for the first time since January 2022.

In the ICC ODI team rankings, Zimbabwe, who have finished outside the last two World Cups in the format, is ranked No. 11, while Sri Lanka is ranked No. 7. Sri Lanka is ranked eighth in T20Is, whereas Zimbabwe is ranked thirteenth. Zimbabwe did not qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup as they lost to Namibia and Uganda in the recent qualifications held in Namibia.

Zimbabwe’s visit to Sri Lanka
January 6: First ODI
January 8: Second ODI
January 11: First ODI
January 14: Initial T20I
January 16: The second Twenty-O
Third T20I on January 18; all games at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo

This will be helpful playing time for the Sri Lankans, who also have T20I series scheduled against Afghanistan (three games at home) and Bangladesh (three games away) in early 2024. The World Cup will also be taken into consideration. June will see the World Cup held in the USA and the Caribbean.

Due to the 50-over World Cup, ODIs have taken center stage this year. Sri Lanka has only played six T20Is, winning two (at home against Ireland) and losing four (in New Zealand and at home against Pakistan).

The first matches of the tour are the ODIs, which are scheduled for January 6, 8, and 11, and the T20Is, which are scheduled for January 14, 16, and 18. The R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will host every game.

Originally scheduled to take place in Dambulla and Kandy, the option to host in Colombo had became available after the Under-19 World Cup was moved to South Africa.
