‘Tamim’s wicket was huge’ – Harry Tector

Harry Tector of Ireland thinks that his team is on a roll after getting the Bangladesh openers out before stumps on the first day of the one-off Test in Dhaka. Even though he hurt his shoulder trying to catch a ball near the boundary line earlier, Tamim opened the innings for the home team.

He lost his opening partner Najmul Hossain and didn’t make it to stumps without getting hurt. At the end of the day, the hosts were 34/2 and still behind by 180 runs. “It was a lot ( the wicket of Tamim). It was hard to believe. I think it evens out the day a bit. We’re not good at hitting the ball, but getting two wickets tonight is a big deal “he told Tector.

“It gives us a lot of energy for the day after tomorrow. I think that particular dismissal is a good sign for us on this wicket because of how the ball was hit.”
Ireland’s only half-century came from Tector, who scored 50 out of 214 runs. He was one of seven Irish players who played their first game in the Test that is still going on. “It was kind of neat. Last night, there was a bit of a ceremony. There were seven of us, so giving each of us a cap on the morning of the first day would take some time. He said, “It was very special.”

“I’m the 22nd person to play for Ireland in a Test, but I’m probably the 706th person to play for Ireland in general. It is a great accomplishment. We are fortunate to be able to play Test cricket.”

Tector said he wasn’t as nervous as he was before his first game in white-ball cricket, but he did say he could have done better. “I didn’t feel as scared as I thought I would. When I played my first ODI and T20I, I was a lot more nervous. I’ve played for a while, so I know roughly what I’m trying to do. Tector said, “I was more excited than nervous.”

“It’s not the same. I think it’s a lot easier in one way because there are so many more gaps. You can hit the ball and move it four yards. But different fields have a lot of problems. More is done with the ball. I don’t think this was my 12th game in the top league. I think I only played one first-class game in the last four years. Many of us have to make a lot of changes to get back into red-ball cricket. It is hard to avoid hitting the ball that loops up for a six. You’re used to doing that because you play so much T20 and one-day cricket, which requires a big change in how you think. Today must teach us something.

“It was fun the whole time until I got out. My shot wasn’t very good, and I made a bad choice when I played it. I don’t think that would have gotten me out if I had defended it. All around, there is a lot to learn. Curtis Campher and I put on a good show together. We were sure we could come up with a good amount. “With the bat, we probably weren’t quite where we wanted to be,” he said.
