Taskin Ahmed, a fast bowler for Bangladesh, said on Tuesday that he is sure he will play in the next home match against Afghanistan.
Taskin hurt his side in the third T20I against Ireland. He missed the next one-match Test series against Ireland in their own country because of this.
The right-handed fast bowler was thought to be the leader of the new fast bowling team, but he wasn’t fit enough to play in the three-match ODI series against Ireland, which started today in Chelmsford.
“By the grace of Allah, the rehabilitation process is going very well, and there has been a lot of improvement. I hope to be bowling again in a week and a half,” Taskin told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium after finishing a rehabilitation program.
“At first, I’ll start by bowling slowly, and how far I go from there will depend on how well I heal,” he said.
“I hope to be in good shape by the time we play Afghanistan,” he said.
Bangladesh will play a series against Afghanistan at home in June. The series will include one Test, three ODIs, and two T20Is.
The head coach of Bangladesh, Chandika Hathurusingha, said that Taskin’s illness would help them learn.
“What happened to Taskin is a good wake-up call for us to keep an eye on how much cricket they play and how to keep them fit for big tournaments like the Asia Cup and World Cup,” said Hathurusingha.
Taskin also trained his mind to be ready whenever he was needed.
He said, “Our BCB coach, doctor, and selectors are worried about this (my injury), and they have already made plans for where and when they want me to play.”
“They (team management) may or may not want me to play, but it’s my job as a player to keep myself ready so I can do my best (when the chance comes),” he said.
