Manoj Tiwary, a veteran batsman for Bengal, revealed on Tuesday, August 8, that he has chosen to come out of retirement and play one more season for Bengal in the red-ball format. He wants to help the team win the Ranji Trophy, which has been hard to get.

Last Thursday, Tiwary announced on social media that he was leaving the game all of a sudden.

On Tuesday, Tiwary was with CAB president Snehashish Ganguly and secretary Naresh Ojha at a press meeting at the Media Center of the Eden Gardens.

Ganguly said this about Tiwary’s sudden choice to leave the team: “When I heard that Manoj was leaving, I was very surprised. I got in touch with him and told him that after playing for Bengal for almost 20 years, this is not the best way to say that he is retiring. A good player and leader like him should leave the game on the field, not in this way. He has done a lot for Bengal Cricket, so he deserves a special way to say goodbye.

Bengal came in second place in the Ranji Trophy in 2022–23, which was led by Tiwary. He said that his main goal next season will be to win the Ranji trophy and say goodbye to cricket.

“The choice I made was made on the spot. I was being selfish when I made this choice, because it could have hurt my family, my friends, and my fans. After I shared the news on social media, my wife also told me to stop. After that, I talked to Snehashish (da), and he persuaded me to play one more season for Bengal.

“I will never forget the love and respect I got from CAB, and you must remember that what CAB does for its players is unmatched. I want to apologize to fans and people who care about me, and I hope to do my best next season and bring glory to Bengal.
