IPL 2023: For the longest time, Virat Kohli has been the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore. Virat had stepped down as captain of the team franchise in the middle of the 13th season of the IPL in 2021. Virat has been an important member of the team as a batsman since then.
In the absence of Faf du Plessis owing to injury, Virat Kohli assumed sole command of the team. Virat assumes captaincy ahead of the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Punjab Kings (PBKS) match on April 20, 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
Kohli received a huge ovation and appreciation from the crowd as he walked back as the captain of the team after a year. Despite being a stand-in captain, Virat’s decision to take up captaincy in the absence of Faf du Plessis is commendable.
IPL 2023: Virat Kohli is Back as RCB Captain
“While talking at the toss today Virat said, Faf potentially can’t be fielding today, so he’ll be playing as an impact player, switching with Vyshak. We got to do what we wanted, we would have batted first, the pitch could get slow, and some scruff marks would help the bowlers go deep into the game. Taking one game at a time, focusing on our own game, and making the most of crunch situations, we haven’t gone that so far in the tournament. No other changes for us.”
Sam Curran won the toss and elected to bat first on their own turf. Both stand-in captains took charge of their respective teams. Shikhar Dhawan is also sidelined with an injury. Sam thinks he’s getting back into shape quickly but had to skip today’s game.
Virat and his teammates were not displeased after losing the toss and opting to bat first. Faf will be the impact player and will be unable to field in the second inning.
Virat Kohli’s appearance as captain in today’s match has RCB fans going crazy. Even if it is only for one game, it will be entertaining to see King Kohli back in action as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
