The first Women’s Premier League final between the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals was a nail-biter, and then both teams bowled very well. When Delhi Capitals went first, they only got 131 runs and lost nine wickets. Issy Wong again did a great job with the ball, taking three more wickets and giving up 42 runs. Amelia Kerr got a couple, but Hayley Matthews was the star, getting three wickets for only five runs in four overs, two of which were not even batted on. The Delhi Capitals were able to get a good score because Shikha Pandey (27*) and Radha Yadav (27*) worked so hard.
Mumbai Indians didn’t have an easy time with the chase. Yastika Bhatia was lost for only four runs, but Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur helped Mumbai get to their goal. Sciver-Brunt was still alive with 60 runs, and the captain added 37 more. The game went into the last over, and then the bowlers for Delhi Capitals played a few tight spells. In the end, Mumbai won by seven wickets with only three balls left to play.
Meg Lanning won the first Orange Cap of the Women’s Premier League, which was not a surprise. In the final, she scored 35 runs, which was the most for Delhi Capitals. Over the course of nine games, she scored 345 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Hayley Matthews, all of whom play for the Mumbai Indians, are in second, fourth, and fifth place, respectively, with 332, 281, and 271 runs.
Hayley Matthews did a great job bowling in the last game (4-2-5-3) of the WPL 2023 to win the Purple Cap. She got more wickets than Sophie Ecclestone, who had the same number. After getting another three-wicket haul, Issy Wong finished the league in fourth place on the Purple Cap table, and Saika Ishaque came in fifth.
