Aaron Judge’s Troubling Plate Trend Bad News for Yankees originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Yankees appeared to be cruising along just fine for most of the 2025 season without Juan Soto, somehow seemingly better after losing the elite slugger to the crosstown rival New York Mets earlier this year.
The biggest part of that was the success of an even more elite slugger in Aaron Judge who, until recently, was pacing at a near .400 clip at the plate and helping the Yankees to what was the best run differential in all of baseball.
New York currently owns the second-best run differential (+97) in MLB behind only the Chicago Cubs, though the Yankees’ winning ways have evaporated entirely over the past week or so.
But Judge’s numbers have dipped over the last several games, as he has struggled to make contact as successfully as he had for much of the early portion of the year.
FanDuel reposted a statistic from Codify to its X account during the Yankees’ eventual 3-2 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night, June 18, noting that at the time of the figure’s publication, Judge had struck out on 15 of his last 22 at-bats.
“Aaron Judge hasn’t looked like like himself lately 😬,” the post said.
Judge finished the contest 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. His batting average following the game had dipped from .372 to .366, while his OPS fell from 1.209 to 1.192 on Wednesday night alone.
The Yankees slugger entered the game with 100 hits, including 26 home runs and 17 doubles, 65 runs scored and 60 RBI. New York fell to a record of 42-31 on the season, which still has the Yankees two games ahead of both the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East. However, New York has now lost six consecutive times.
The reigning MVP and his Yankees teammates will take on the Angels again in the Bronx on Thursday.
