Shubman Gill’s majestic 269 in the second Test at Edgbaston has caught the eyeballs of all the cricketing fans from around the world. The Indian skipper followed his innings of 147 in the first Test with a brilliant double ton.
Gill displayed a batting effort of the highest class where he looked flawless and unbothered throughout his innings. None of the English bowlers were able to trouble the “Prince of Indian cricket,” as he brought up his highest individual Test score, which also happens to be the highest Test score by an Indian captain.

Gill surpassed Kohli’s 254 in his monumental effort with the bat and earned praise from 2 Australian podcasters.
Gill’s brilliance with the bat earned him high praise from around the globe. The popular Australian cricket duo, Ian Higgins and Sam Perry, in their praises for the Indian skipper, declared,  “The prince will now be king,” on “The Grade Cricketer.”
The Australian pair known for their comic, unique, yet insightful take on cricket took to their social media channels to admire Gill’s innings and praised the Indian skipper.
“He is the alchemy of classicism in batting,” the podcaster said. “This guy is wearing the cloak of captaincy so well…He just plants his bat on the ball with the most majestic, most regal shapes, front foot, back foot, and with like full application for Nigh on two days. He finishes with the score that now gives him insurance as a skipper,” he added.

Gill’s knock was a strong statement to all the critics who questioned his abilities as a batter in English conditions. His records in England as a Test batter were not great at the start of the series, with an average of around 14, but with the form and shape that he is in, he might end the series having scored the highest runs by any visiting batter.
The 24-year-old’s double hundred drew attention for its maturity. “It was a captain’s knock in every sense. Shubman didn’t just bat; he led. He set the tone,” noted Grade Cricketer’s Higgins.
Thanks to an exceptional display of batting by the skipper which was well accompanied by other batters around him, India are well in control of the game at the end of day 2.
After their massive effort of 587 runs in the first innings, Indian bowlers ensured that the day ended well, grabbing 3 crucial wickets that reduced the hosts to 77 for 3 at the end of day’s play.
With India trailing 1-0, this is a perfect opportunity for this new Indian side to put across a statement and start a new dominant and fearless era of Indian cricket under the leadership of “The Prince” – Gill.
