How Jadeja's 100-Second Over Helped Sundar Get Ben Stokes Out: WATCH – News18

Team India are eyeing a rare and famous win against England in the ongoing second Test at Edgbaston. After setting a mammoth 608-run target, the visitors went for lunch on the final day needing just 4 wickets to beat Ben Stokes & Co and level the series 1-1.
England resumed their innings at 72 for 3 after the rain kept the players and fans waiting for more than an hour. Overnight batters Harry Brook and Ollie Pope looked to anchor the chase, but Akash Deep struck soon to provide India a crucial breakthrough. He got rid of Pope in the 20th over and then returned in the 22nd to trap Brook in front.
Skipper Ben Stokes then jumped into the ring to perform a rescue act, stitching a 70-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith for the sixth wicket. But just when it seemed that England were taking charge, Washington Sundar broke their rhythm at the stroke of lunch.
It was the 40th over when Sundar dipped the ball in front of the stumps and hit the England skipper on the pads. Stokes was looking to block it off the front foot but was deceived by the late inward drift. The umpire’s decision took him aback and he was further left heartbroken after losing a review.

Sundar broke a frustrating partnership, but equal credit goes to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who wrapped up the previous over in under 100 seconds. This quick effort allowed India to squeeze in one extra over before lunch. With exactly 100 minutes lost earlier in the day due to delays, Jadeja’s urgency gave India just enough time to push harder, and it paid off.

Going into day five, either an India win or a draw was a probable result with England effectively conceding that they were not going to go for the mammoth target despite only drawing one game in the last three years.
