Gill was 25 years and 301 days old when India sealed the victory against England, its first at Birmingham.

IND vs ENG, 2nd Test: India records first Test win at Birmingham in 58 years

India registered its first win at the venue on its ninth attempt, beating England by 336 runs.

India registered its first win at the venue on its ninth attempt, beating England by 336 runs.
Akash Deep completes his 10fer. India beats England by 336 runs. The series is level 1-1.
Brydon Carse c Shubman Gill b Akash Deep 38 (48)
Bashir tries to ramp against Jadeja, misses, the ball pops up to first slip off his pad. The umpire puts his finger up but Bashir takes the DRS and gets a reprieve.
Bashir also plays a perfect straight drive through mid off but the batters decide not to run for that. The ball too ends up not reaching the fence.
CHANCE! Carse plays a wild heave against Akash, this goes high into the sky, Siraj is getting under it from mid on, but the problem is that he’s running backwards, the ball comes behind is head and Siraj eventually shells it.
WICKET! Jadeja has his first wicket of the match. And he has to thank Siraj for a one-handed blinder at short midwicket.
Tongue heaves this through the on side off his pads, but Siraj dives full stretch to cut this and manages to hold onto it too.
    Josh Tongue c Siraj b Jadeja 2 (29)
Shoaib Bashir with a reverse-swept FOUR on his first delivery.
Siraj back into the attack. FOUR! Carse gets width and he’s going after any chance he gets. Picks this over point and towards the fence.
Caarse is dropped by KL Rahul at first slip. Jadeja comes around the wicket and gets Carse to edge with extra bounce. Rahul has to dive to his right and he fumbles it.
Replays show Rahul was asking the leg slip fielder to move when Jadeja already started his load up to bowl.
Akash to Carse, too full and the batter drives this down the ground, gets three runs.
SIX! A bouncer too Smith, the deep fine leg fielder is in the reckoning there for a moment but it sails over his head. SIX more! A half tracker there to be hit, Smith pummels this over deep midwicket.
WICKET! The third time the bouncer works. AKASH HAS A FIFER! This was a slower bouncer which foxes the batter. Smith goes for a pull again, but way too early, picks the deep square leg fielder.
Jamie Smith c Washington Sundar b Akash Deep 88 (99)
The bowlers may have been aided by the moisture and overcast conditions to have the ball doing things. The pitch too has finally decided to react on some lengths.
Prasidh. OUT! Woakes is gone. A shot he will regret. Went for the pull, gets a top edge straight to short midwicket. England is seven down now. Woakes goes for seven off 32.
Now Smith is given LBW! It was a late decision by umpire, leaving him surprised. Height, missing. Not out. Good review by Smith. Full toss and Smith puts it away for four towards midwicket.
Now Prasidh Krishna too is into the attack. Smith is looking to play his shots, whenever possible while Woakes has gone into his defensive shell.
Sundar. Smith comes down the track and smacks the ball over midwicket for a six! Follows it up with a four past backward point. Another six! Once again comes down the wicket and hits the ball straight.
Akash Deep has come into the attack now. Not a lot of movement for him at the moment. India has placed both silly mid off and mid on.
Jadeja is getting to turn the ball off a rough outside leg for right hander. The batters are meeting the ball awkwardly. A thick outside edge flew past vacant gully region for four.
Surviving, England. The ball is doing a bit today than the previous days: drifting and turning off a length. Runs aren’t coming.
Sundar. He’s getting a very good drift going. Smith cuts on the last ball and gets a four towards deep third.
Jadeja. Smith begins the over with a four towards mid off. Five runs from the over.
Chris Woakes is the new man in. Sundar continues to finish the over. An outside edge but falls just short of the first slip. Three dot balls to end a successful over.
A successfull session for India. Three wickets taken and Shubman Gill’s team is breathing right down England’s neck. Akash Deep continued to unleash terror on England batters and nabbed Ollie Pope and Harry Brook with movement off the surface, using the cracks on offer. Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith threatened to push towards a draw but Washington Sundar’s sly change of pace trapped Stokes in front and pushed England closer to the brink.
WICKET! Stokes departs on the cusp of Lunch. Washington does the trick but Stokes has asked for a DRS. A quicker one aimed at the stumps, Stokes is late in getting his bat down and the ball hits the pad first. Three reds on the ball tracker and India is just four wickets away now.
Ben Stokes lbw b Washington Sundar 33 (73)
Washington Sundar into the attack just before Lunch. He starts with two singles from his over.
Jadeja now over the wicket to Jamie Smith, looking for something out of the rough. He changes his pace too in that over. There’s sharp turn and bounce on the first delivery but Smith is able to defend the others pretty comfortably with a long front-foot stride. A maiden.
First bit of aggression from Stokes towards Jadeja. Gets low early and sweeps from outside off through fine leg for FOUR. He reprises the shot on the third ball, but there’s a fine leg fielder now, gets just one.
Turn away from Jamie Smith beats his outside edge. He then goes for a slog sweep on the final delivery, misses.
Jadeja to Jamie Smith, FOUR, on the pads and Smith sweeps this wide of short fine leg. Smith gets an outside edge through point which allows him a single.
Jadeja to Stokes now, gets one to turn from the rough, Stokes comes forward to defend btu this breaches his gate, beats Pant too as it stays a touch low, runs to the fence.
A misfield at covers by Washington Sundar, allows a single to Jamie Smith. It also breaks the 15-ball streak of India without conceding a run. Siraj is irked by that effort.
And the very next ball goes for FOUR. On the pads, and Stokes just nudges this on its way.
FOUR more! Siraj going short, ends up bowling a half tracker, Stokes pulls this away through midwicket.
Jadeja creates the first real chance from the rough. The ball turn sharply into Stokes, who sets up to glance this down leg, despite knowing there a leg slip in place. This one is quicker too, and Stokes can only get a glove onto it, which takes the pace off that delivery and ensures the ball falls just short of the fielder at leg slip.
Jamie Smith goes onto his back foot against Jadeja and punches through the on side, get two runs. Out comes another back-footed shot on the fourth ball, through covers for a single.
Stokes picks a FOUR against Siraj. He lets this length delivery come into him, square cuts this past backward point.
He drives the next through covers to make it two in two.
Jadeja for his first over this innings. Just a single from that one.
Jadeja goes after the rough area against Stokes. There’s a big puff of dust on the third delivery after it pitches. The left-hander will have a torrid time playing from that length and line.
Mohammed Siraj into the attack now. His first delivery is full outside off to Stokes, angling away, Stokes defends. Siraj pulls the length back on the second, Stokes shoulders arms.
Stokes defends the third and fourth deliveries as well.
Siraj keeps the fifth in the channel outside off, Stokes leaves it to the keeper. The final delivery is also left alone, a maiden for Siraj.
As the ball goes softer, England’s chance of survival grows. Good for India is there has been a crack around the length which is getting the ball to move. India will hope it keeps on reacting like that for long.
Akash is getting a lot of movement off the pitch, especially inwards. Takes the ball in between bat and pad of Jamie Smith, unlucky not to hit the stumps.
Krishna too has found good rhythm today. He’s getting the to move slightly off the pitch and in good areas.
Akash Deep. Stokes is almost chopped on! Smith ends the over with a four towards fine leg.

What is India’s biggest win margin by runs in Tests?

Krishna. Four! Stokes flicks the ball away towards midwicket.
Akash Deep. Brook is given LBW! A terrific nip backer and Brook was too late to react. The question is the height or impact. Umpire’s call on height and Brook has to go! England is five down.
Jamie Smith. He came when England was 84/5 in the last innings. Can he once again play a similar innings? He gets off the mark with a four towards covers.
Akash. OUT! Pope is gone. Hurries Pope on that occasion. Pope leans in for a defence, gets an inside edge and the ball crashes into the stumps. Early breakthrough for India. Pope goes for 24.
Ben Stokes at crease. He’s off the mark with a double.
Krishna. Catches Brook off guard on that occasion with the rising delivery on length. The ball goes just past gully and he takes a double. This time Brook slashes it away past gully for four.
Akash Deep from the other end. Attacks the stumps straight-up. Drifts on the thigh pads and Brook takes a single off the last ball.
Brook takes a single off the first ball. Krishna keeps the line around the off stump on length. Just one run from the over.
Players are out in the middle. Just a few minutes left for the start. Can India registers its first win of the tour or will England survive 80 overs?
Harry Brook and Ollie Pope at crease. Prasidh to begin proceedings.
