That's us done for day one of the third Test at Lord's, with Joe Root on 99 overnight as England closed on 251-4 having chosen to bat.

Joe Root didn't score a mass of boundaries in the evening session as he worked his way up to his 191-ball 99.

Can’t believe I’m saying this in the Baz-Stokes era but a traditional day of Test cricket.

Ollie Pope speaking to Test Match Special: "I just got asked what par was and I have no idea. Pretty slow pitch, not one that you always felt in on. I think ending the day 251-4 is pretty good. Slightly different to the way we usually put together an innings, but we'll take it.
"I managed to face 100-odd balls, but made a pretty annoying error after tea. It's annoying not to be 90-odd not out with Joe at close, but I can take positives."
"We want to be a team that is positive and entertaining, but we want to play to the situation. Our order is pretty fast scoring on our good days, we all know we can score hundreds off 120 balls, but we need to dig in off this sort of surface."
On Joe Root: "Joe Root has inspired everyone in the changing room and in this country. His work ethic and the way he goes about his cricket is inspirational over such a long career. Fingers crossed he can make it a massive one tomorrow."
On Ben Stokes' injury: "Your guess is as good as mine, he looked pretty sore out there. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious."
England's four wickets fell in two swift pairs, two in the morning session, two early in the evening.

England batter Ollie Pope, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think because of the lack of pace in the pitch and the style they were bowling there was still movement there but you had to force it through, which, in England, we're not always used to. [It was] not our usual day but a pretty solid day.
"I think at Lord's the outfield is pretty lush, so hopefully we can keep it swinging for a long period of time. With the Lord's slope there is always something there, its not like you're in and you can smack it where you want.
"They bowled pretty wide to me today, I knew the risk was trying to drive it through the covers. I think it was about getting our heads down and the ball is getting soft, and batting gets easier.
"It's not always been the way we've gone about our cricket but I think long term in the game hopefully that will reward us if we can kick on tomorrow. "

And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them as a trusted online personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.
Anyway, Jasprit Bumrah has taken over at the other end – Joe Root takes two past gully from his first delivery then pushes the next ball through point for a single.
That takes him to 96, and Stokes faces the remaining four deliveries without scoring.
