'England Deceived Everyone…': India Legend Trolls Ben Stokes' Men For 'Prankball' – News18

Call it the need of the hour or lessons from Edgbaston, England were forced into attritional cricket, a methodology they seemed to have shunned for some time now in favour of aggressive batting, on the opening day of the third Test against India at Lord’s. Joe Root led the charge as he dropped anchor with England ending Day 1 at 251/4 in 83 overs.
The Indian team, expectedly, took a dig at their hosts, wondering where ‘Bazball’ has disappeared. India legend Ravichandran Ashwin noted the change and quipped that England deceived everyone by playing ‘Prankball’.
“Everybody expected England to continue Bazball but they deceived everyone by playing Prankball," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. “They (England) usually score at a net run rate of 4-4.5 an over but today was different. England were going at three runs an over."
I had previously talked about Joe Root scoring runs very important for the team. Cometh the hour, Cometh the man. His innings was an example of how Test cricket needs to be played. Root is back," Ashwin added.
Root, unbeaten on 99 at the close of play on Day 1, reached three figures with the first ball of the second day’s play. It was the 37th century of his Test career.
Later, he would take a brilliant low catch to dismiss India’s Karun Nair that took him clear of Rahul Dravid in the list of most catches (by an outfielder) in Test history.

“I’ll be watching it (his catch) back, for sure. It should’ve been a long time ago. There’s been a few drops in there, but it was an important one, so nice to cling on to it and keep contributing in the field today," Root said.
“That’s the whole point, you want to try and contribute; you want to add to the team and find ways of affecting the game, if you’re out there in the field. I might bowl the odd over here and there, but there’s only limited ways that you can get yourself in the game. In order to drop catches, you’ve got to put yourself in those positions in the first place. That’s one thing I’ll always keep trying to do how can I make an impact? How can I help the lads? Standing at first slip is one of them," he added.
